Army Community Health Nursing in Korea
MAJ Angie Hemingway
Abstract
Army Community Health Nurses support the mission of soldiers, family members and other bendficiaries through out Korea. Their role in Korea is to promote, preserve and restore the health of Army personnel and family members through programs of
clinical
screening, epidemiological follow up, surveillance and health education. Furthermore, Army Community Health Nurses have a unique responsibility to help ensure military forces are deployed in state of optimal health and equipped to protect
themselves
from disease and injury. Army Community Health Nurses (ACHN) come from varied backgrounds. Their clinical background, previous military training, and selection to attend 6AF5, the Preventive Medicine Course for specialization, equips ACHNs to
carry
out
their roles in Korea. Maior program areas include Communicable disease, Health Promotion and Child Development services. This presentation describes the ACHN role in training and programs they provide to military, civilian and other personnel
throughout
Korea.
